The American Corner
at University of Macau Library, which was established
in October 2004, represents a joint endeavor between the Public
Affairs Section of United States Consulate General, Hong Kong
and Macau, and the University of Macau. It aims at promoting mutual
understanding between the United States and Macau in general and
in giving sustained support for the strengthening of University
of Macau curricular needs in the area of American Studies in particular.
The fundamental function of the American Corner is to make information
about the United States readily available to UM students as well
as to the Macau public. Access to American Corner collections
is free and open to the public in accordance with the Library's
current operating guidelines and regulations (i.e. circulation
policies, library opening hours, etc.). |
The American
Corner carries primarily up-to-date reference materials including both
print and electronic formats in curricular relevant subject areas from and
about the United States. More specifically, the American Corner also
provides U.S. information through access to the Internet, and to
audio-visual products. Programmed events and activities (i.e. author
readings, coached orals, speaker programs, films, workshops, meetings, and
exhibits) will be hosted by the American Corner on a regular basis to
encourage learning, research and socio-cultural exchanges.
